Digital cinema is poised to change the way people see movies. By replacing traditional film prints with a digital bitstream, digital cinema offers a more consistent and more involving experience. Movies are free of scratches, picture movement, and screen dust. They play back exactly as the director intended, every single time. Audiences feel a much greater sense of realism, of actually "being there." Exhibitors benefit as well. Digital cinema gives them the ability to play alternative content, and it significantly improves scheduling flexibility for times and screens. Digital cinema also saves studios money by eliminating traditional film prints. Hollywood has already moved to digital methods for movie creation, so it is logical that digital distribution follows. The Dolby® Digital Cinema system has received FIPS Level 3 certification from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). This certification ensures the highest level of antipiracy protection for the digital movie when it is processed inside the unit. FIPS Level 3 certification is a Digital Cinema Initiatives (DCI) requirement for digital cinema servers, and the Dolby server is the first to achieve this certification.
