School of Sound
April 2013
Since 1998, Dolby has been supporting audio education by helping students to attend the School of Sound international symposium at reduced prices. The School of Sound has established itself as the major forum for the creative use of sound in media and the arts. Dolby is pleased to continue its support of the not-for-profit event by providing students with bursaries to attend the four-day masterclass series. This series introduces the audience to an eclectic group of speakers from cinema, theatre, radio, dance, sound art, music, architecture and games. Speakers will include professional practitioners, artists and educators who reveal the methods and creative thinking that lie behind the most effective use of sound and music in screen, installation and audio production.
The last event in 2011 attracted over 300 people from 40 countries, making it the only event that focuses on the creative aspects of sound as it relates to images. It also boasts an audience with a mix of professionals, academics and high level students. Dolby’s contribution in past years has helped 10 students and will continue to do so for 2013.
