Nativ and Dolby bring Cinematic quality to Multiscreen delivery
Nativ’s MioEverywhere platform.
The Challenge
As the multiscreen industry evolves, so too does the availability of films and TV programmes on mobiles, PCs, and tablets. This presents content owners with the challenge of ensuring that the highest quality experience is provided across all these devices.
The Solution
Dolby has partnered with Nativ, a media technology company specialising in media management and workflow automation to enable a greater number of content owners to access Dolby’s advanced audio technologies without the capital expenditure, as well as all the benefits of Nativ’s MioEverywhere platform.
Dolby’s suite of professional preprocessing and encoding tools, Dolby Media Generator, has been integrated with Nativ’s workflow and delivery platform, allowing content owners to encode in Dolby® Digital Plus and Dolby Pulse and utilize a range of advanced analysis tools to provide the highest quality audio visual experience for multiscreen TV.
This also enables Dolby customers to benefit from Nativ’s recently launched Mio On Demand service. The new solution, which is based in a secure “private cloud”, allows users to scale up or down as required so usage costs vary according to the volume of ingested, stored, repurposed, and distributed content.
With the help of Mio On Demand, Dolby has identified a quick-to-market and cost-effective way of making Dolby Digital Plus available to content owners and aggregators on a transactional basis. So for clients seeking a solution for all the encoding and delivery, Dolby can now offer an end-to-end solution to meet their needs and more.
The Benefits
Dolby’s partnership with Nativ marks a new way for music labels, broadcasters, post houses, production companies, and brands to access Dolby’s advanced audio technologies, bringing cinematic quality to multiscreen TV, along with some additional advantages:
Zero CAPEX – based in a “private cloud”, so no hardware investment is required
Simple transactional payment model – users pay for what they use, providing flexibility and tighter budgetary control
Set up in hours, not weeks – ability to exploit new opportunities almost immediately
Huge scale with clustered “private-cloud” computing – service resides within a secure, cloud-based platform (in Nativ’s datacentres) that can be expanded or contracted according to a company’s needs
Access to Dolby encoding and multichannel audio – encode to the very best quality available
“People’s entertainment habits are changing”, said Jon Folland, CEO of Nativ. “It’s not unusual now for someone to watch a movie on their mobile whilst they’re on the go and then dock it when they get home to continue watching on their TV. At the same time as this becomes more commonplace, audiences are demanding that content retains its quality no matter what device it’s being watched on. And as it’s been proven that audio is a key indicator of quality, our partnership with Dolby enables Nativ’s customers to offer the best quality across all platforms quickly and cost-effectively.”
