Dolby® TrueHD Digital Out unleashes the ultimate high-definition audio experience:

Transports Dolby TrueHD bitstreams from Blu-ray Disc™ players via HDMI™ 1.3 or later to compatible A/V receivers for decoding

Saves the cost of a Dolby TrueHD decoder within the Blu-ray Disc player while enabling 100 percent lossless audio that is bit-for-bit identical to the original studio master from releases with Dolby TrueHD soundtracks

Enables single-cable HDMI connection for both HD video and lossless audio, providing easy installation and ultimate performance

Dolby TrueHD Digital Out lets you offer an attractive, economical option for Blu-ray Disc players that deliver the true lossless audio performance of Dolby TrueHD to home theater enthusiasts with the latest playback equipment. It saves you and your customers the cost and complexity of a Dolby TrueHD decoder within the Blu-ray Disc player, while enabling the home theater systems that feature built-in Dolby TrueHD decoding to deliver uncompromised lossless, studio master–quality audio from Blu-ray Disc releases with Dolby TrueHD soundtracks.

Note: Dolby TrueHD decoding is still needed in a Blu-ray Disc player if you wish to ensure that Dolby TrueHD soundtracks can be combined with the full benefits of advanced Blu-ray Disc features such as BonusView and BD-Live™, and experienced through TV sets and legacy home theater systems.

Why Dolby

With Dolby TrueHD Digital Out technology, your products can stand out from the competition by delivering at lower cost studio-quality surround sound that is identical to the original recording. In addition, you can take advantage of the Dolby TrueHD Digital Out logo to signify its presence in your product. This signals to your customers that you have included the latest in the long line of Dolby developments.

Dolby TrueHD Digital Out:

Transports Dolby TrueHD bitstreams to a compatible A/V receiver via an HDMI 1.3 or later single-cable digital connection for audio and video

Transfers data at bit rates of up to 18 Mbps for unmatched sound quality

Delivers up to 16 channels of pristine audio

Supports Blu-ray Disc’s standard eight full-range channels of 24-bit/96 kHz audio, and up to 5.1 channels of 24-bit/192 kHz audio

Dolby TrueHD soundtracks feature a bit rate that constantly varies with the complexity of the content. This makes it possible to store very high resolution lossless audio in a minimal amount of disc space.

HDMI connectivity, however, requires a constant bit rate to transmit audio data. Dolby TrueHD Digital Out converts the variable bit rate of a Dolby TrueHD bitstream on Blu-ray Disc to a constant high-bit-rate stream that can be passed out of the player to a suitable playback system via high-bandwidth HDMI 1.3 connections. This approach guarantees accurate, consistent Dolby TrueHD performance.
