Dolby Laboratories brings Dolby® Atmos™ – Future of Cinema Sound to India


Dolby Laboratories, Inc. (NYSE: DLB) today announced the arrival of its latest revolutionary technology, Dolby® Atmos™, in India.  SPI Cinemas, a leading player in the Indian entertainment industry and a pioneer in media technology is the first exhibitor in the country to install Dolby® Atmos™, a new audio platform that will change the experience of sound in entertainment, at the city's leading multiplex, Sathyam Cinemas. Launching in the Indian cinema, Dolby® Atmos™ delivers a more natural and realistic sound-field, which transports people into the story with a lifelike, sensory experience.

SPI Cinemas announced that Serene screen at Sathyam Cinemas Complex, Chennai is the first cinema chain in India to introduce the latest groundbreaking audio technology while AVM Productions’ Sivaji 3D starring Rajinikanth will be the first Indian title to be released with Dolby® Atmos™. The cast and crew of Sivaji 3D unveiled the first Dolby® Atmos™ trailer of Sivaji 3D.

Dolby® Atmos™ is a new audio platform that revolutionizes the experience of sound in entertainment. It allows sound designers and mixers a new level of creative control and ensures that audiences will experience the full impact of the sound mix, regardless of theatre configuration. This technology gives filmmakers greater control over the definition and placement of sounds and is designed to help them unleash the full depth and power of their creative visions.

Moviegoers will be able to experience the cutting-edge Dolby® Atmos™ auditory experience with the premiere of Sivaji 3D. Directed by Shankar, the production is the first Indian film to be mixed in Dolby® Atmos™. The film opens with Dolby® Atmos™ on December 12 at Serene screen at Sathyam Cinemas Complex, Chennai.

Real Image Media Technologies is the first studio in the country to adopt mixing capabilities in Dolby® Atmos™. The movie has been recreated in 3D by Prasad EFX, one of the leading digital post production facility.

(The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey) have adopted the Dolby® Atmos™  format, increasing the count of 2012 Dolby® Atmos™  titles to six. In 2013, three titles, including Gravity and Pacific Rim from Warner Bros. and Star Trek into Darkness from Paramount Pictures, are already scheduled to receive the Dolby® Atmos™ treatment, with additional studio titles to follow.
