Dolby Atmos Cinema Processor CP850 Base

Dolby Atmos represents the future of cinema audio, but we recognize that equipping a cinema for a fully immersive Dolby Atmos experience may not be practical for every situation today. For that reason, we now offer the Dolby Atmos Cinema Processor CP850 Base as well as the Dolby Atmos Cinema Processor CP850.

The Dolby Atmos Cinema Processor CP850 Base will play back traditional Dolby Surround 7.1 and 5.1 formats, as well as, render select Dolby Atmos titles to a Dolby Surround 7.1 configuration. It includes the same advanced equalization and other audio features as the Dolby Atmos Cinema Processor CP850, so you can ensure that your cinema is ready for the future while adding a number of sound improvements now. The CP850 Base does not require Dolby Commissioning Service. Dolby Atmos marketing support is exclusive to theatres only with Dolby Atmos Cinema Processor CP850. As with the full Dolby Atmos Cinema Processor CP850, these features include:

    • Individual amplification and equalization of the surround speakers
    • Support for bass management of the subwoofers
    • Internal crossovers to improve your cinema's sound

    Dolby Commissioning Service

Each Dolby Atmos Cinema Processor CP850 includes the Dolby Commissioning Service: a complimentary review of the speaker configuration design and an initial room equalization. Our Content Services consultants will review your design drawings and equipment selection to ensure that your theatre delivers the highest-quality experience possible.

This service is available only for the full Dolby Atmos Cinema Processor CP850 , or when you upgrade the functionality of your Dolby Atmos Cinema Processor CP850 Base.

    Dolby Atmos Interface DAC3201

The Dolby Atmos Interface DAC3201 allows you to use legacy amplifiers in Dolby Atmos installations. The DAC3201 employs an audio-over-Ethernet protocol to receive the digital audio stream from the Dolby CP850. It then converts the digital audio to analog audio for connection to amplifiers. Each DAC3201 supports up to 32 analog outputs.

A Dolby CP850 cinema processor together with a single DAC3201 can support up to 48 speaker feeds. Installations with more than 48 output channels will need two DAC3201 units.

    Dolby Atmos Cinema Sound

Dolby Atmos represents a dynamic shift in audio, reinventing traditional surround sound methodology.

        Frequently Asked Questions

Does Dolby Cinema Audio work with Rendering and Mastering Units, CP750, et cetera?

Dolby's Cinema Audio mobile application currently only supports Dolby Atmos Cinema Processor CP850 devices with software version 2.1.0.10 or above.

        Is the app free?

Yes. Download Dolby Cinema Audio from Apple's App Store.

What are the Apple mobile devices supported?

The app is supported on mobile devices running iOS 8.1 or later. The app is designed for iPhone (5 or later) and iPod touch (5th gen) but it also runs on an iPad.

I have an Android phone. Where can I get the Android version?

An Android version of Dolby Cinema Audio is not yet available.

Does the app provide any layer of security?

To add a Dolby Atmos Cinema Processor CP850 to the app's list of devices, the mobile user must provide the app with the CP850 serial number and IP address or hostname. In addition, the app can only access Cinema Processors on the same network; which means that only mobile users who have access to the cinema's internal network can connect to Cinema Processors.

Is a wireless network in the cinema needed?

Yes, a wireless network in the cinema must be available to the mobile devices. The Cinema Processors must also be connected to this same network via Ethernet. Cinema operators can enforce all the usual layers of security (hidden SSIDs, strong passwords, MAC filtering, et cetera) because the mobile devices handle all networking; the app will connect to the Cinema Processors within its available network.

Are critical controls protected from accidental button presses when my mobile device is in my back pocket?

Yes, critical controls such as changing the fader level or muting the Cinema Processor are either locked (and unlocked by swiping) or placed within a control panel that requires a deliberate press to access.
