Licensing Costs and Pricing
Licensing Dolby® technology includes two costs: an initial licensing fee paid when agreements are finalized and a royalty for each unit of your product sold. The initial licensing fee varies based on the type of product you are manufacturing. Royalty fees also differ from product to product. We use several factors to calculate royalty fees, including which Dolby technologies are used in your product, the actual production quantity of that unit during a given three-month period (a calendar quarter), and production quantities of any other products containing Dolby technologies that were produced in that same period. Because of this variation, it is difficult to estimate royalty fees without specific product and production data. In addition, the licensing fees for professional product developers are higher than those developers targeting the consumer market due to a more robust feature set.
