Guidelines for Cinema and Film Advertising

We do not require cinemas to sign an agreement to use our logos in advertising, but you must have Dolby cinema equipment installed in your cinema. To use any Dolby logo in the promotion of your cinema, please contact us to receive a Dolby Theatrical Promotional Kit.

Guidelines for Using Internet Trademark and Logo Buttons
Trademark Notice

The following acknowledgment must be displayed whenever Dolby trademarks are used: Dolby and the double-D symbol are registered trademarks of Dolby Laboratories.

Physical Layout
  • Don't alter the logo button shape or colors in any way.
  • Prominence: Dolby trademarks are to be no less prominent and in the same relative size as the most prominent third party trademark appearing on the page. Dolby trademarks must be used in a manner that distinguishes them from other marks.
  • Whenever the word "Dolby" is used, the letter "D" must be uppercase.
In General
  • Dolby trademarks must always be used in accordance with established US practices for the protection of trademark and service mark rights, unless the requirements in the country from which the website containing the Dolby trademark is served are more stringent, in which case the practice of that country must be followed.
  • The Dolby Internet trademark and logo buttons must not be used in any way that suggests a common, descriptive, or generic meaning.
  • "Dolby" is a registered trademark used to describe the products, developments licensed to others, and services of Dolby Laboratories. This means that it should be used as an adjective (e.g.; Dolby® noise reduction, Dolby® Digital, Dolby® Surround). Please don't use the word alone, as in "a home theater with Dolby." That is not only trademark misuse, but also uninformative.
  • Also, avoid phrases like "Dolby A/V receiver" or "Dolby cassette deck," implying that Dolby Laboratories manufactures such products. We don't; we license our technology (Dolby Surround Pro Logic® decoding, for example) for use within consumer products. Say "an A/V receiver with Dolby® Surround Pro Logic®," or "a cassette deck with Dolby® noise reduction," instead. Other Dolby trademarks include "Pro Logic," "Surround EX," the double-D, and various other logos.
  • Dolby trademarks may not be used in connection with products that do not meet Dolby's quality standards.
  • Dolby trademarks may not be used in connection with devices or audio programs other than Licensed Products or Licensed Soundtracks (devices and audio programs licensed by Dolby Laboratories Licensing Corporation). We provide licenses for trademark usage on soundtracks at no cost: if you want to do this, you will need to complete a Trademark Agreement.
  • All uses of Dolby trademarks are subject to approval by Dolby Laboratories.
  • These guidelines form an integral part of the Internet Trademark and Logo Button License Agreement, and are subject to modification by Dolby without notice.
