1.

What are the computer requirements for running the Dolby Lake Controller?

A touch-screen or tablet PC is recommended for use with the Dolby® Lake® Controller software.
We recommend utilizing a computer with at least the following specifications:

CPU1.0 GHz or higher
RAM512 MB or higher
Video RAM128 MB or higher
OSWindows® XP or Vista
DirectX8.1 or higher
Networking 10Base-T wired Ethernet adapter, 802.11b Wi-Fi Ethernet adapter

2.

Is the Dolby Lake Controller backward-compatible so I can control the Lake Contour and Mesa EQ along with the Dolby Lake Processor?

Yes, the Dolby Lake Controller is fully backward-compatible, enabling you to freely mix and match Lake Contour™, Lake Mesa Quad EQ™, and Dolby Lake Processors.

3.

When I run the Dolby Lake Controller on a wired Ethernet network, everything works very well. But when I use the Lake Controller on a wireless network with an access point, the metering is slow and the interface is sluggish. Can you help me?

When using a wireless tablet or laptop for your Dolby Lake Controller, you may need to switch off power-saving features, which can reduce the performance of your PC. If you experience slower performance while using the Dolby Lake Controller without mains power, turn off any battery-power-saving settings that affect the general performance of your PC. Some battery optimizations also affect wireless connection speed—if you experience a slow wireless connection while in battery mode, these settings should be disabled. As settings vary depending on each tablet/laptop, please consult the appropriate hardware manual for further information.

4.

When I use the Dolby Lake Controller on my tablet PC, I see the tablet PC’s onscreen keyboard flicker on the display. How can I get rid of this problem?

Windows XP Tablet PC Edition provides the pen action Start Input Panel Gesture, which starts the tablet input panel (keyboard or writing pad). This gesture is a quick movement of the pen from side to side. If the Input Panel appears while using the Dolby Lake Controller, it will cause flickering as both the Dolby Lake Controller and the Input Panel attempt to be in the foreground. To disable the Input Panel gesture:

  1. Access Tablet and Pen Settings via Windows Control Panel Start > Settings > Control Panel > Tablet and Pen Settings.
  2. Select the Pen Options tab.
  3. Select Start Input Panel Gesture and tap Settings.
  4. Uncheck the box labeled Enable Start Input Panel Gesture.
5.

What do I need to do to my PC’s network configuration so that the Dolby Lake Controller operates correctly with a network of Contour processors?

The network card of the Dolby Lake Controller host computer must be configured properly in order to communicate with processors on the network. A valid fixed IP address, required for network communication between the Dolby Lake Controller software and processors, can be acquired in numerous ways depending on the network configuration. If you are connecting the Dolby Lake Controller host computer and processors to an existing TCP/IP-based Ethernet network, the IP address settings probably do not need to be changed.

6.

What wireless access points do you recommend?

We have tested most manufacturers’ wireless Ethernet access points, and have found that Cisco Systems provides a superior product. The Cisco® Aironet® AP350 series and the new Cisco Aironet AP1200 and AP1300 series access points are the only access points we recommend.

7.

What tablet PCs do you recommend?

We recommend the Toshiba Portege® M400.

8.

Can I use the Dolby Lake Controller with a normal PC—without a touch-screen or tablet PC?

Yes, you can use the Dolby® Lake® Controller software with a standard keyboard and mouse. However, the Dolby Lake Controller has been optimized to work with touch-screen and pen displays, so you will find using your finger or a stylus works better than simply using a mouse.

9.

How do I load different crossover configurations?

To load different configurations, you need to use the Dolby Lake Controller software (please refer to the Dolby Lake Processor System Manual if you need installation instructions).

  1. From the Main page, click the Modules toolbar button.
  2. Click the Module Store/Recall button. This will bring up the Scrollbar, which displays the Dolby Lake Controller’s file system.

    Click the Module Store/Recall button

  3. Select the folder called Default Modules and then click Open.
  4. In the Default Modules folder, you will find all of the available modules that are starting points for saving your own files. Select the module on the Main page that you would like to change, choose a module file that you would like to load, and then click Recall.
  5. After you have made changes to a module, you can save the module from the same location in the toolbar interface. Navigate to the folder where you would like to store the file, then click the New Store button.
10.

How do EQ Overlays work?

The Dolby Lake Controller has two types of input EQ—parametric and graphic. Groups and modules can have multiple layers of EQ, called overlays. Each module can have up to eight EQ Overlays and each group can have four. A module can have up to 256 input EQ filters distributed among its overlays. A module’s overall input EQ response is calculated by summing its input EQ Overlays with those of all groups to which that module is assigned. The resulting EQ curve is indicated by a white line displayed on each of that module’s overlays.

11.

Can I have more than two EQ Overlays?

Yes; by default, a module has two EQ Overlays, one parametric EQ (PEQ) overlay and one graphic EQ (GEQ) overlay. A group starts out with only one PEQ overlay.

The Overlay New function is used to create a new PEQ overlay. This can be changed to a GEQ overlay. Please refer to the Dolby® Lake® Processor System Manual for further details.

12.

What is the difference between User and Designer modes?

There are a number of different levels of security and password protection in the system. Base configuration and module files can be password-protected to hide crossovers, limit the range of faders, and generally remove various levels of functionality. User and Designer modes are two levels of protected operation of the Dolby Lake Controller software.

In Designer mode, the “designer” can create a system and then limit the functionality of that system when the system is operated in User mode. The important functions that Designer mode activates include: Global Access Security, Overlay Access Security, Level Limits, Factory Settings, password protection of modules, and password protection of base configurations.

13.

The Dolby Lake Controller starts with a page called “Main.” Can I create more pages to logically separate my system?

Yes. From Home, select the Pages toolbar button. Then click the toolbar button Add Page to add another page. Add as many pages as you require. You can also cut and paste modules between pages.

14.

The Dolby Lake Controller shows delay in milliseconds. Can I change this to feet or meters?

Yes. From Home, select the User Preferences toolbar button, then select the Delay Units toolbar button. You can choose milliseconds, feet, or meters as the display value for delay.

15.

What does Show mode do?

When Show mode is on:

  • Channel Mute and Polarity buttons are disabled on all Levels pages.
  • All changes to EQ and levels are restricted to fine adjustments.
  • All Crossover pages become view-only.
  • All Home-level menu options are disabled except User Preferences and Network Reset.

Under User Preferences, tap the Show Mode button to toggle Show mode on (orange) and off (blue).

Show mode should be activated during a show to prevent accidental changes.

16.

Are there loudspeaker presets available?

Yes,the current versions of all approved loudspeaker presets are provided as part of the Dolby Lake Controller software installation. You can choose which loudspeaker presets to install during the installation process.
