Dolby E Professional Licensed File-Based Encoding Partners
Several Dolby® E professional software encoders are being developed this year for release by licensed Dolby partner companies. Dolby E professional encoders for file-based applications are already available, and Minnetonka Audio Software and Neyrinck are the first companies to release software products that contain these implementations. (The real-time Dolby E Encoder professional licensed development kit is currently in development and will be available in early Q3 of 2009.)
SurCode for Dolby E Encoder
In February, Minnetonka released the SurCode™ for Dolby E Encoder plug-in. This encoder integrates with Digidesign® Pro Tools® workstations to provide faster-than-real-time encoding of up to eight channels of audio. Supported user-selectable program types include 5.1 and stereo, four independent stereo, or eight mono channels.
With SurCode for Dolby E Encoder, users can manually enter metadata, import it from .wav files containing a Dolby metadata chunk, or import metadata from an .xml file. Settings can be saved as plug-in template presets. Used in combination with Minnetonka’s SurCode for Dolby E Decoder, the two plug-ins act as a complete suite for quick processing and management of file-based Dolby E assets and metadata in your digital audio workstation or computer.
Both stand-alone and VST® releases are expected this year, for both Mac® and Windows® operating systems. NAB attendees can view a demonstration of the SurCode for Dolby E Encoder and Decoder software at the Minnetonka booth (N8531).

SoundCode for Dolby E Encoder
SoundCode for Dolby E from Neyrinck is a stand-alone software package and Pro Tools plug-in set for the encoding, decoding, and confidence monitoring of Dolby E streams in file-based and tape-based work flows. It is available now for Mac OS® X; a Windows version is also in development.
The software includes two modules, the Broadcast Encoder and the Broadcast Monitor. The Broadcast Encoder can encode a Dolby E stream file or combine audio and Dolby metadata into an .mbwf file for use by other systems. The Broadcast Monitor enables decoding of Dolby E streams, playback of Dolby E and .mbwf files, and displaying Dolby E metadata from files or Dolby E streams.
SoundCode for Dolby E features the same mastering quality and time-saving Pro Tools integration seen in SoundCode for Dolby Digital, which is used worldwide by audio postproduction professionals. Additionally, it can be used as a stand-alone application, allowing Dolby E integration with almost any video or audio workstation. SoundCode for Dolby E makes Dolby E simple no matter what your work-flow or delivery requirement.
