The Challenges of Mobile Media

Today’s consumers are seeking no-compromise on-the-go audio and video comparable in quality to what they’re accustomed to from home entertainment systems and Internet content portals. Delivering this experience requires balancing a number of competing factors—bandwidth requirements, delivery speeds, and handset capabilities. Dolby® Media Generator helps provide this balance, offering a unique and efficient way to give consumers high-quality audio and video that will meet and even exceed their expectations.

Faster and More Reliable

With Dolby Media Generator, aggregators and distributors ensure more reliable delivery of mobile content while lowering storage requirements, reducing download times, and raising playback quality.

One of the ways Dolby Media Generator accomplishes this is by making files more efficient without diminishing their quality. Dolby engineers helped revolutionize the cinema and home theater experience, and that same know-how informs the world-class encoding tools in Dolby Media Generator.

In addition to streamlining files for greater efficiency, Dolby Media Generator automatically validates and, if necessary, repairs files. This minimizes the need for quality control and ensures a better, more consistent playback experience.

The Metadata Difference

Dolby Media Generator also improves file formatting. Instead of aggregators and distributors having to create multiple variants from the master to ensure playback on different mobile devices, Dolby Media Generator produces a single standards-based file compatible with almost any mobile device.

Embedded within this file is metadata—a benefit to content creators, operators, and consumers alike. In fact, Dolby Media Generator adds five metadata sections to all processed files, sections that range from business information for better tracking and reporting to liner notes, album art, and other information that will increase consumer engagement. Metadata can even be used to control the settings on devices featuring Dolby Mobile.
