Dolby Digital Plus is a versatile, scalable digital audio coding technology that extends the capabilities of Dolby Digital. It delivers up to 7.1 channels of surround sound and supports a wide range of bit rates that ensure optimized sound quality and efficiency to match available bandwidth. It also enables advanced applications such as multiple-program support and audio stream mixing.

Why Dolby

Dolby® Digital Plus delivers premium-quality surround sound to the PC, improving the listening experience of downloaded and streamed media, Blu-ray Disc™, and digital TV. With support for up to 7.1 channels of audio, it complements high-definition video, unlocking the full audio potential of streamed and downloaded media, as well as HD broadcasts. Dolby Digital Plus is also fully compatible with all audio content encoded in Dolby Digital.

Dolby Digital Plus is supported by Microsoft® Windows® 7 and is included in the Windows 7 Home Premium, Professional, and Ultimate editions.

Dolby Digital Plus helps a PC serve as a full-featured center of an advanced home audio system. It allows connection to the home theater system via HDMI™ through a single cable. Through a simple conversion to Dolby Digital, it also allows connection via S/PDIF to legacy home theater systems.
