Dolby Digital Stereo Creator Header

Dolby® Digital Stereo Creator is an efficient audio coding technology that lets consumers record high-quality Dolby Digital stereo audio on a variety of digital media, including DVD-Videos and Blu-ray Discs authored on PCs.

Saves substantial space on recording media compared to PCM while maintaining high audio quality

Creates content that can be played through any home theater or other playback system with Dolby Digital decoding

Is an audio standard for recording video on AVCHD™ based camcorders and digital still cameras

Based on the same Dolby Digital technology used for movie soundtracks, DVDs, digital cable, digital TV, and more

Dolby Digital Stereo Creator is a version of Dolby Digital perceptual audio coding optimized for consumer applications, making it possible to store high-quality digital sound far more efficiently than it is to store conventional PCM recording.

Dolby Digital Stereo Creator can be built into disc-based camcorders (DVD, AVCHD, Blu-ray Disc™, or flash memory), digital still cameras, optical disc recorders, and PVRs. It can also be incorporated into PC software that converts the user’s final audio mix to Dolby Digital for burning onto a recordable DVD-Video or Blu-ray Disc.

Stereo soundtracks encoded with Dolby Digital Stereo Creator can take up less than one-tenth the space required for stereo PCM audio, while audio quality is what consumers have come to expect from Dolby Digital media such as DVD-Videos and DTV broadcasts. A multichannel version, Dolby Digital 5.1 Creator, is also available for recording discrete surround sound audio.

Two-Channel PCM Audio (Red Book CD Standard): 1.4 Mbps
Dolby Digital Stereo Creator Audio: 384–448 kbps

Why Dolby

As digital video recording grows rapidly in popularity, so does the use of the PC as a video editing and production tool.

With increasingly sophisticated video editing and production software available for a wide range of PCs, users are discovering that they can create home movies with a high level of technical quality. They are also discovering the importance of the audio to the overall video quality.

Incorporating Dolby Digital Stereo Creator into a PC allows users to add Dolby Digital stereo soundtracks to their home movies.

PC users can burn their videos onto DVD-Video or Blu-ray Discs. These discs will play back properly on nearly any DVD or Blu-ray Disc player.

Benefits of using Dolby Digital Stereo Creator include the following:

It provides playback compatibility with the many millions of home theater systems worldwide that already incorporate Dolby Digital technology.

It delivers high efficiency encoding so that soundtracks occupy minimal disc space.

It enables users to add a professional touch to their videos with high-quality stereo sound.

Dolby Digital Stereo Creator technology creates a bitstream compatible with Dolby Digital decoders from PCM or other source audio. It can provide mono (1/0), dual-mono (1+1), and stereo (2/0) encoding modes.
