Dolby Technology Codecs
Entertainment products containing Dolby codecs such as Dolby® Digital (AC-3), Dolby Digital Plus, and Dolby TrueHD bring your content to life with a richer, cinematic audio experience.
Dolby codecs are typically preinstalled in products. When that’s not the case, a program supporting a Dolby codec is needed to play back content encoded with Dolby technologies over a music or movie player.
Not all Dolby codecs are the same—if you want the benefits of a higher quality codec such as Dolby Digital Plus, you may need a program that supports that technology.
So how do you know if you already have the necessary playback software? If you bought your PC in a retail store, check to see if the software is:
Preinstalled on your computer
Available on the installation disc that came with your computer
If you find you don’t have the appropriate product to play back audio content encoded with Dolby technologies, or don’t have playback software at all, you’ll need to purchase one of the software playback products from our partners listed below.
