Gaming in Dolby

Gaming has come a long way since its humble origins. The paddles and square ball of Pong and the 2D images of alien creatures in Space Invaders were enough to captivate kids and adults alike for hours. Since then, gaming has evolved to become a truly multi-sensory experience, placing the player at the centre of dynamic action. Players need to react to visual and auditory stimuli as quickly as possible or it could be game over. The better the picture and sound quality, the better and more immersive the gameplay. That’s where Dolby comes in. Dolby Vision® and Dolby Atmos® work together to take the gaming experience to the next level, immersing gamers in new worlds to solve problems and save the day — or just battle a bunch of zombies, if that’s your thing.

The Dolby Difference

Gaming is undeniably a visual experience. What you see on the screen — and how good your picture quality is — makes all the difference to your gameplay. So, for the best gaming experience, you want the best possible picture. With Dolby Vision, that’s what you get. Imagine you’re navigating a cave with just a torch in your inventory or stumbling through a dark forest with only the light of the moon to help you escape the enemy. If your picture quality is poor, details will be lost in the shadows and you’ll have a frustrating time getting to the next checkpoint. But with Dolby Vision’s darker darks and brighter brights, you won’t run into that problem. The dynamic contrast for deeper detail means you can catch every detail and never miss a trick.

However, as much as gaming is a visual experience, it’s an auditory experience, too. Gamers know the horror of hearing an enemy charging at them from behind, requiring cat-like reflexes to avoid certain death. With Dolby Atmos, you can be inside the sound, hearing with extreme precision exactly where threats and other stimuli are coming from. With layers of sound placed all around, above, and below you, Dolby Atmos immerses you right in the centre of the game, allowing you to be inside the multidimensional soundscape. Dolby Atmos enhances the quality of dialogue, background noise, and soundtracks, too, elevating the audio experience of your game.
