Dolby Laboratories, Inc. and its affiliates (collectively, “Dolby”) respect your concerns about privacy. This careers privacy notice (the “Careers Privacy Notice”) applies to personal data we obtain on this careers website (“Careers Site”) and through other means as described below.

This Careers Privacy Notice describes the types of personal data we collect when you visit, use, or apply for a position through our Careers Site, how we may use that information, with whom we may share it and the choices and rights you have regarding our use of your personal data. The Careers Privacy Notice also describes the measures we take to protect personal data and how you can contact us to exercise your rights. This Careers Privacy Notice does not cover your use of our products or services. Our privacy practices may vary among the countries in which we operate to reflect local practices and legal requirements.

Information We Collect

Information You Provide to Us

The types of personal data you may provide to us for recruitment purposes include:

Contact information (such as name, postal address, email address and mobile or other phone number)
Your CV or resume
Other files or content you provide (such as cover letter, references, transcripts, photographs, videos, articles, voluntary survey responses, comments, and links to websites such as LinkedIn or GitHub)
Academic and professional details (such as work experience, job titles, skills, professional certifications or licenses, educational background, and transcripts)
Login details (user ID and password)

We may derive inferences about you based on the information described above and may also collect other information about you as described in this Careers Privacy Notice.

Please note that if you do not provide certain information, we may not be able to accomplish some or all of the purposes outlined in this Careers Privacy Notice, and you may not be able to use certain tools and systems which require the use of such personal data.

In the United States, information you provide to us may also include citizenship or work permit status, and your willingness to relocate. In addition, our application may contain optional questions about demographic information including your gender and race/ethnicity. Answering these demographic questions is completely voluntary. Your responses, or your choice to not respond, will not be associated with your specific application and will not in any way be used in the hiring decision, nor will you be subject to any adverse treatment by Dolby.

You may share information about job opportunities at Dolby with others by providing the recipient’s and your email addresses. Please ensure the recipient’s contact information is accurate and he or she has consented to receiving such communications via e-email. We use these contact details only to fulfill your request. If you provide us with personal information of another person (for instance, a potential employee/referral), you are responsible for ensuring that such person is made aware of the information contained in this Careers Privacy Notice, and that the person has given you his/her consent for sharing the information with Dolby.

Information We Collect or Receive from Third Parties

We also may collect or receive information about you from your references, professional licensing and certification bodies, recruiting agencies, talent management service providers, and other third parties. Subject to applicable law, this may include information that you make publicly available, such as information that you post on sites used for professional and social networking, including LinkedIn and GitHub. We may combine this information with personal data you provide to us and derive inferences about you based on such combinations. Information We Collect by Automated Means

How We Use the Information About You

We use the personal data we have collected to: (1) identify and recommend potentially relevant career opportunities for you; (2) evaluate you in connection with career opportunities; (3) contact you regarding the recruitment process and/or your application(s); (4) analyze, understand and enhance our recruitment and application processes; (5) provide customized recommendations based on information you provide to us; (6) verify information you provide, including conducting background checks where permitted or required by law once you have accepted a conditional offer from us; and (7) carry out other human resources functions and activities. How We Share Your Information

We do not share personal information about you except as described in this Careers Privacy Notice. We may share your personal information with (1) our affiliates and subsidiaries and (2) our service providers who perform services on our behalf. These service providers are not authorized by us to use or disclose the personal data, except as necessary to perform services on our behalf or comply with legal requirements. We require our service providers to appropriately safeguard the privacy and security of personal data they process on our behalf.

We also may disclose personal data about you: (1) if we are required to do so by law or legal process; (2) for the purposes of, or in connection with, any legal proceedings, or otherwise for the purposes of establishing, exercising, or defending any legal rights; (3) to law enforcement authorities or other government entities based on a lawful disclosure request; or (4) when we believe disclosure is necessary or appropriate to prevent harm or financial loss, or in connection with an investigation of suspected or actual fraudulent or illegal activity.

We reserve the right to transfer personal data we have about you in the event we sell or transfer all or a portion of our business or assets (including in the event of a merger, acquisition, joint venture, reorganization, divestiture, dissolution or liquidation).

This Careers Privacy Notice may be updated periodically to reflect changes in our personal data practices or relevant laws. We will post a prominent notice on the site to notify you of any significant changes to our Careers Privacy Notice and indicate at the top of the notice when it was updated.

Exercising Your Rights

Subject to applicable law, you may have the right to: consult and copy the personal data we maintain about you, request that Dolby provide a channel to transfer your personal data to another personal data handler of your choice, request that we correct or complete your personal data, request that we delete your personal data, request that we explain personal data handling rules, or restrict handling of sensitive personal information.

We may require you to verify your identity before we process your request.

Many of our data practices are based on legal grounds other than consent, such as fulfilling statutory obligations. EEA and UK Residents

If you are an EEA or UK resident, the information below also may apply to you, in addition to other portions of our Careers Privacy Notice. This supplemental section of our Careers Privacy Notice describes the legal bases we may rely on when processing personal data, how we transfer personal information, and how long we retain your data. For clarity, the information below applies to personal information we collect about you in connection with your consideration of career opportunities, both on and off the Careers Site.

Where applicable law requires a legal basis to process personal data, we generally rely on the following legal bases:

Contractual necessity: we may process personal data to fulfill contractual obligations to you or to take steps at your request in relation to a contract, such as when you receive a job offer and send us information to finalize the terms of a contract; we may require certain personal data to evaluate your application or enter into a contract with you, and if you choose to withhold such information, it may prevent you from being considered for a position or accepting a position for employment at Dolby;
Compliance with legal obligations: we may process personal data to comply with legal requirements, such as to verify that you have the right to work in a particular country, or confirm that you have the required certification or licensure for a particular role;
Legitimate interests: we may process personal data on the basis of our legitimate interests, such as to evaluate your profile in connection with career opportunities, schedule interviews, understand and enhance our recruitment and application processes, understand how applicants are accessing our website and what pages are most popular, and related purposes; and
Consent: we may process personal data on the basis of consent, such as when you submit your application and provide certain information (including information we have not solicited or have indicated is optional) in support of that application, such as: professional references; information about race, ethnic background, health status; information shared in the course of an interview; or any other personal data that you choose to freely share.

Where we process personal data on the basis of your consent, you have the right to withdraw consent at any time by submitting your request as specified in the How to Contact Us section above, without affecting the lawfulness of processing before consent was withdrawn.

How We Transfer Personal Information

We may share personal data you provide on this Careers Site with our affiliated companies globally, including, but not limited to those located in the United States, the EEA, Australia and China. In addition, our service providers may be located in countries other than the country in which you originally provided your personal data, including in the United States. These countries may not have the same data protection laws as the country in which you provided the personal data. In particular, the United States has not been recognized by the European Commission as providing an adequate level of data protection. Dolby has implemented appropriate safeguards to ensure such a level of data protection, such as data transfer agreements based on the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses in accordance with Article 46 of the EU General Data Protection Regulation. How Long We Retain Your Data

Dolby will keep your personal data in your personnel file if you are hired. Otherwise, we will retain your personal data for the duration of the recruitment process and for any additional period necessary to carry out the purposes identified in this Careers Privacy Notice. If we wish to retain your personal data afterwards for a further job opportunity, we will inform you following the closure of the recruitment process and provide you with the option to object to this further processing. In case you object, we will delete or permanently de-identify your personal data. Please note that in certain cases, legal or regulatory obligations require us to retain specific records for a set period of time, or we may retain personal data for the purposes of establishing, exercising, or defending any legal rights. For candidates in Germany, we will generally retain your personal data for a period of six (6) months after your last login date to the Careers Site (or the last date on which you uploaded your CV/resume if you do not have an account), unless otherwise required or authorized by applicable law. For candidates in the rest of the EEA and UK, we will generally retain your personal data for a period of two (2) years after your last login date to the Careers Site (or the last date on which you uploaded your CV/resume if you do not have an account), unless otherwise required or authorized by applicable law. We take measures to destroy or permanently de-identify personal data if required by law or if the personal data is no longer required for the purpose for which we collected it.

California Residents

This supplemental section of our Careers Privacy Notice describes the purpose of handling your personal data in a recruiting/employment context, our handling methods, the categories of personal data we handle, how long we keep your personal data, where we may transfer personal data internationally, and methods and procedures for exercising your rights. For clarity, the information below applies to personal information we collect about you in connection with your consideration of career opportunities, both on and off the Careers Site.

In general, during the recruitment process, we try to limit collection or processing of personal data that, once leaked or illegally used, may easily cause harm to your dignity or grave harm to personal or property security, including information on biometric characteristics, religious beliefs, specially-designated status, medical health, financial accounts, and individual location tracking (“Sensitive PI”). We will not collect or process Sensitive PI unless required by applicable laws. We neither require nor encourage individuals to provide any sensitive personal information to us during the recruitment process unless such information necessary under applicable laws (for example, to evaluate whether the candidate has necessary qualifications for a job position as required by law), in which case, if required by applicable laws, we will notify individuals of the necessity, impact, purpose, method, category of personal information, retention period, procedure to exercise rights, and other matters. If you voluntarily provide Sensitive PI (for example on your CV/resume or in interviews), you are deemed to have given separate consent to Dolby handling that Sensitive PI for the purposes described in this Careers Privacy Notice. If Dolby is legally required to handle, or you have given separate consent to Dolby handling, any Sensitive PI, we will process such information in accordance with applicable laws.

How Long We Retain Your Personal Data

For candidates in China, we will retain your personal data for a period of three (3) years after your last login date to the Careers Site (or the last date on which you uploaded your CV/resume if you do not have an account), except where Chinese laws or administrative regulations provide otherwise, or if you are hired by Dolby as explained below. Dolby may retain your personal data for a longer period in the event of a complaint, or if Dolby reasonably believes there is a prospect of litigation or government action involving you. After the retention period ends, we will generally either destroy or permanently de-identify your personal data. If such measures are technically hard to realize, we will cease personal information handling except for storage and taking necessary security protective measures.

If Dolby wishes to retain your personal data for future job opportunities, we will inform you following the closure of the recruitment process and provide you with the option to object to this further handling. If you do object, we will delete or permanently de-identify your personal data.

If you are hired, Dolby will keep personal data collected during the recruitment process in your personnel file, which is handled according to separate employee privacy notices.

How We Transfer Personal Data

Since we operate globally, subject to applicable law, your personal data may be stored on the servers of Dolby or its affiliates or service providers, which may be located outside China, including in the United States. However, we will continue to protect your personal data in accordance with the Careers Privacy Notice.

In addition, we share certain personal data with third parties, which may be located in countries other than China, including the United States. Such third parties are required to handle personal data consistent with the purposes listed above and to comply with applicable Chinese laws and regulations.

By creating an account or submitting an application, you agree that 1) Dolby may share your personal data with Dolby affiliates outside of China, including Dolby’s headquarters in the United States, and 2) Dolby may share your personal data with third parties consistent with the purposes specified above, including to third parties located outside of China. If you do not want your data to be stored or shared outside China, please do not provide such data to Dolby.
