MOTION STUDIES

onformative - August 18, 2016

Dolby® Gallery presented, Kinaesthetics, an exhibition that imagined analog movement markers within a variety of digital environments, demonstrating the immersive power of Dolby Atmos® sound to activate our inherent energy.

To celebrate the new commission by Berlin-based artist collective, onformative, Dolby Gallery hosted Motion Studies, an event program that featured an original dance performance inspired by Collide. Collide, drew data taken from multiple dance techniques, and interpreted it into a colorful reimagining of movement featured on the ribbon screen.

Dolby Gallery hosted an evening event in two parts: an artist talk and a live dance performance that connected with the artwork both conceptually and kineasthetically.

Cedric Kiefer of onformative, Julie Phelps of San Francisco’s CounterPulse, and choreographer Katie Faulkner of the Bay Area’s Little Seismic Dance Company discussed the process of creating choreography and visualizing dance. Following the discussion, dancers performed a 10-minute piece inspired by Collide’s visuals and soundscape.
